OUTFIT POST & UNTOUCHABLE

Today I went to watch an advance screening of Untouchable at Vue Islington, thanks to some free tickets from Mei x
Watched it with the lovely Shirley, another new friend!


Before I get into it, here's my outfit for today - black and burgundy - some of my favourite shades for fall/winter.

Top: H&M / Skirt: Forever 21 / Jacket: Zara / Boots: Clarks / Necklace: Forever 21

It's getting rather nippy outside, the jackets and coats are coming out!


Here's the synopsis for the movie from the Vue website:

'Untouchable is a moving true story that has won awards across the world. When Philippe (François Cluzet) becomes quadriplegic after a paragliding accident, he needs a full-time carer to help him with his everyday activities. By choosing a young offender, Driss (Omar Sy) over more qualified applicants, he lets himself in for a life of thrills, including a return to paragliding, even though his friends fear for his safety. Untouchable is a heart-warming story of friendship, bravery and what can happen if you decide not to accept the limitations imposed on you.'

 

And before I forget to mention, it's a french movie! But not to worry, there's subtitles of course.
This comedy-drama was previously released as ‘Les Intouchables’ in France in autumn 2011, and became the second most successful French film ever at the French box office (after 2008’s comedy 'Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis', otherwise known as ‘Welcome to the Sticks’ - which I remember watching in my French class during my university days!)

There is a brilliant chemistry between the two characters and are quite a double-act, a perfect mixture of humour and touching moments. Much funnier than most comedies that I have watched in the past.

Based on a true story, this is a definite feel-good must-see movie.

It is due to be released in the UK on Friday 21st September 2012. 

OUTFIT POST & BYRON HAMBURGERS

My lace dress that I bought a while ago has been hiding in my wardrobe for too long. So, since it was sunny on Saturday, I decided to make the most of the weather and wear it while it's still bright and cheery outside!

 

I do have a soft spot for lace, but can be quite particular about cheap-looking/-feeling lace. I did however bag quite a nicely made lace dress from Forever 21 that day! Every now and then I manage to get some good finds there, it's all about the hunt!

The man had a craving for a burger so we tried out Byron in Kensington. We both ordered the Classic 6oz hamburger with a side of home-made skin-on chips each and americanos.

The place has got a nice chilled atmosphere, quite a family-oriented place judging by the number of kids and buggies! Having had a good first impression upon entering the place, we were rather disappointed when the food arrived. It must have been one of the saddest burgers I've ever been served with a miserable piece of lettuce, onion and measly pickle on the side. You also have to order your sides separately which adds on to the bill. Would probably have been more impressed by McD or BK...

We'll be on the look-out for a good greasy burger next time!

It's the end of the weekend again, for most people that is. 

I've got my Monday off as usual, might do a bit of a wardrobe clear-out!

A GLAMOUROUS EVENING AT HARVEY NICHOLS KNIGHTSBRIDGE

So today I attended an event at Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge that I had 'RSVP-ed' to just over a week ago thanks to my lovely friend Mei x

I had just finished my 11-hour shift at work and arrived almost an hour late, having to endure the rush hour on public transport.

Had a nice time sipping prosecco and sampling some of the Tom Ford perfumes - I particularly liked the Café Rose Eau de Parfum...except for the hefty price of £135.00 for 50mL (!)

I did get a cute 4mL sample bottle though as a keepsake x

We all received a discount card that entitled us to 10% off which was valid for a week. 

Not that I'll be doing any big spending this time round...unless I won the lottery.

Though I did eye a gorgeous Vivienne Westwood bag...

Going to keep my eyes out for the sales, patience is after all a virtue x

WEEKEND SUMMARY IN PICTURES

Okay, this is so far the longest that I have been MIA in the blogging world. A lot has happened over the past week that I've been wanting to post but haven't had the chance to do so until now. So here's just some bullet points to sum it up...

1. London 2012 Paralympics - Athletics

Yes, after multiple tries and failures in the past I FINALLY managed to bag some tickets for Athletics at the Olympic Stadium that I have been dying to get into!
There were some great events going on that night as well (6th September 2012), as we watched Weir and Peacock win some awesome gold medals, as well as catching the famous Oscar Pistorius in action.

 2. The man turns a year older!

After an amazing night watching the Paralympics, I had a little birthday surprise back home for Mike...

 

3. New Converse shoes

I've been dressing more casual-sporty these days and wearing trainers more often than before because I do a lot of walking and they are just SO comfy.

 I got these babies the other day from Sole Trader.

 

4. Birthday dinner treat at Gaucho Piccadilly & Paralympics Closing Ceremony

 Mike loves a good steak so we had a lovely meal at Gaucho - the finest Argentinian steak!

I had one of the fillet options (Medallion) whilst he opted for the rib-eye (Bife de Ancho), accompanied by a bottle of Malbec. 

We shared some sides - crushed mayan gold potatoes, grilled asparagus and humita.

The waiter who served us, (I think he was called Greg?) was very attentive and our food was served promptly and efficiently.

We then headed off to Trafalgar Square to watch the Paralympics Closing Ceremony live on the big screen!

  5. Olympic and Paralympic Athlete's Parade

We stood for 3 hours at Trafalgar Square waiting for the procession that went through central London - the end to a great summer 2012 in London.

So glad I have Mondays off and joined the thousands of spectators that lined the streets of London to catch all the action! - snapping away at all 21 floats carrying more than 700 athletes that passed by.

And I also satisfied my craving for fried chicken at KFC after abstaining from it for months, or even a year or two! It's been a while I can't really remember...

Phew, I should really keep up with my posts more often, cramming all into one is harder work than normal!

A TRIP TO THE HAIRDRESSERS, PARALYMPICS & PICCADILLY CIRCUS CIRCUS!

Finally sorted out my issues with my photo uploading! Looks like I have maxed out my Picasa limit so I have now resorted to uploading via Flickr - technology really confuses me at times but at least I got my head round this eventually.

Anyways, after weeks of procrastination I have finally made a trip to the hairdressers!

 

 It was just for a trim and tidying up my layers, but the hairdresser, Maria did a stunning job of blow-drying my hair out nicely just as I requested. I must admit that I am hopeless with a hairdryer so it's always a treat when I can just leave my hair in the hands of a professional.

Had an early start today as we headed out on our way to The Excel to watch Sitting Volleyball - just a couple of Paralympic tickets that I was fortunate enough to bag online.

But before that, we fueled up on a hearty breakfast - it is after all the most important meal of the day!

There was a finale at 8pm that unfortunately I didn't manage to watch live in person, but at least I could stream it from my laptop. It was AMAZING watching the Places de Anges online and I can imagine how much more magnificent it would have been to experience it in person. I would have probably stuffed some feathers in my bag as a momento!

Angels really did take the main stage in London today.

Let's hope they make this an annual event!
