CERU, 135 CANNON STREET

Ceru is an Eastern Mediterranean restaurant London with a concept based on using fresh and seasonal ingredients, showcasing the vibrant flavours from the Levant. After missing out on their previous pop ups, I recently had the opportunity to sample some of their delicious food at their latest winter pop up at 135 Cannon Street in The City of London.

Having to fight my way through the rush hour crowd and constantly swerve to avoid being trampled on by men in suits makes me quite thankful that I don't work in the city.
However, after making a few turns I eventually arrived and stepped into the warm and welcoming Ceru.
Looking through the cocktail list, I went for the Passionista, their Signature Cocktail which is a mix of Absolut Vodka, vanilla, fresh passion fruit and fresh lime juice - definitely one for those who like it sweet and fruity.

I was pretty hungry by then, and eagerly dived into the bowl of warm, freshly baked Greek pita bread, served with a selection of dips: pancar, fadi and houmous topped with chickpeas, green chilli and lemon, a classic dip from the Levant.

Next was a vibrant bowl of crisp apple, pomegranate and mint salad which was really refreshing (and healthy!). From their 'Veggie Heaven' selection, we were served a delicious platter of herbed zucchini and feta cheese fritters, seasoned with a lovely blend of cumin and cayenne pepper spices with dill and mint. This was followed by the roasted baby aubergines with tomato and chilli which was nice and smokey, and topped with a generous dollops of herbed yoghurt and crunchy almonds.

Although I was quite full by that point, I obviously had to try their slow roast lamb shoulder with shawarma spices. The meat was incredibly juicy and succulent, the richness balanced by the fresh pomegranate and pistachio dressing. If you love your meat, then I would recommend this as a must-order dish.

The highlight of the evening for me was the Ice Cream baklava, knowing how much of a sweet tooth that I am...
The pistachio nut ice cream was topped with roasted nut brittle and burnt honey caramel, and was just the perfect dessert to end the meal.

They have plenty more tasty dishes on their menu, which you can view by clicking here
If you happen to be lucky enough to work in the area, then I would recommend a visit.

The Ceru winter pop up in The City is open from Monday to Friday from 7am to 10pm, until 4th January 2016.
